1998
On the summer of 1998 Zsolti and Zoy had merged their experiences and founded the Desperado band. The reason of the foundation was the success of their previous musician mates, Axel and Mosquito from the band called Kerozin.
Previously Zsolti worked together with Axel in the rock band President, while Zoy was the partner of Mosquito in a techno-disco formation.
Zsolti and Zoy was a bit envy at the success of their friends and they longed for something similar: appreciation of the fans and top hits. Axel and Mosquito felt what they desired and they planned to help them. The band had born with the name of their favourite old movie: Desperado. Everything went in the right way. They were happy and full of temperament when a passionate girl, Meli joined their group. They made a demo disc including 4 hits. Thanks to Meli’s great competences in organizing events, they almost immediately started to give concerts. The Desperado travelled round through the Eastern part of Hungary, and after a while they had been invited to the Transdanubia part of the country also.
2000
The band had found their final image and a new, professional singer, Betti joined them. Meli quitted the band, so the Desperado became a band with 3 members: Betti – singing, Zsolti – singing and rap, Zoy – lyrics and melodies. They made the hit “Aranyhal” (Goldfish) which was a real breakthrough in the life of the Desperado – the BMG – Ariola offered a contract for making their first album. They released their first maxi called “Aranyhal” and they made a video for it, but the shooting wasn’t simple and easy. They went to a small island of the Adriatic sea and shoot the video 10 meters deep, but they were surprisingly brave. Zoy was standing on the top of a rock acting Poseidon while Zsolti had a role of a wicked privateer.
After shooting the video they moved to the studio to record their first album. According to the preliminary plans they would have been recorded 11 original hits, but an unexpected accident defeated their conception. The Kerozin and the Desperado proceed to give concert together when the Kerozin’s car fall into a ditch at the border of Hajdúsámson. Betti was in the car and she broke her breastbone and vertebra. Her recovery took too long, so they needed to make a new conception.
Finally the album included 9 original hits, a Mosquito remix and a Megamix made by Ger-Man and the well-known Dj. Scaty. Because of the delay this album’s release date was November, and it received the title “Kívánhatsz bármit!” (Wish whatever you want) – and briefly they released their second maxi, which contained 2 slow songs, the “Bújj Hozzám” (Cuddle to me) and the “Szomorú alkalom” (Sad occasion). They also made a video for “Szomorú alkalom”, which is an emotional, slow and sad Christmas song. Shooting took place in the Vajdahunyad castle, on the part of the river Danube and at one station of the M1 metro and needed only one day.
2001
After the Christmas song Desperado made another Maxi from their popular song “Akarom Őt!” (I Want Him). Naturally they shoot a video for this song, too. The Maxi and the video had been released at the beginning of May. The “Akarom Őt!” kept the promises. From week to week the numbers of the concerts and invitations grew. The video was played many times on the music channels. Countless memorable appearances , many Road-shows, open-air parties and some festivals as well as the Junior Athletics World Championships opening and closing event can be connected to this album. After this success the band arrived to make a new song.
2002
In February 2002 they released their 4th Maxi with a new video for they hit “Tanár Úr!” (Mr. Teacher) which can be found on the “Kívánhatsz bármit!” album. Desperado declares a band can only be successful if they can comply with the always changing musical claims and can make some foreshadowing and unique productions. A really good band has got more than only one album. Desperado has got plans for long term period and they hope their fans also has it.
At summertime a brand new song “Gyere és álmodj!” (Come and have a dream) had been released with a really nice video. Their fans and the press also welcomed that song with love. 1st November their second album came out with this title “Gyere és álmodj!” . By Christmas a lot of copies were sold and the album went gold – at the same time their first album “Kívánhatsz bármit” also did it!
2003
In the beginning of the summer the band made a new song and video which received the title “Rajtad múlik” (It’s up to you). With making this song they album took near to going platinum.
In November they made their 3rd Maxi from their 2nd album’s song “Ég Veled!” (Goody-bye), which is a slow and lyrical song. The video was shoot according to Zsolti’s and Zoy’s idea and it was recorded on high-quality film material.
Right before Christmas Desperado received their first platinum for the album “Gyere és álmodj!”.
2004
In the beginning of August their brand new Maxi, “Csak egy perc...” (Only one minute...) came out as a preview of their approaching 3rd album with the same title. The colourful and spectacular video was shoot on a roof in Budapest.
In October the 3rd album finally revealed and every sceptical needed to admit Desperado has a good position in the Hungarian pop music industry.
2005
In March they finished the “Add nekem az álmod!” (Give me your dreams) single and recorded a new video with the tried and tested staff. Shooting took place at 2 locations: the party scenes on the exclusive Spoon ship on the Pest side of the River Danube, while the bedroom scenes in the Hotel Budapest’s President Apartment.
From May Desperado started a live concert tour as they thought it’s time to show their fans how good they are with a live band. Betti – singer, Zsolti – vocal and guitar and Zoy – acoustic guitar asked 3 friends to join the band for the concerts.
In the middle of the summer their album “Csak egy perc...” went gold, so then they got 3 golds and a platinum!
In August the Desperado’s new website reached completion. Apart from some news an online web tv made their website unique. Concert dates and video news can be also found on the website.
1st October a new lyrical song released, it’s title is “Fáj” (Hurt). On the website there were an opportunity for the fans to listen samples from the new songs and which received the greatest number of votes was nominated to make a Maxi from. “Fáj” won the competition so Desperado made the Maxi from this song. The video’s screenplay was written by Zsolti and both the song and video had a great success.
2006
In February “Szabad vagy” (You’re free) single came out and this was the last song from their 3rd album. They performed this song on their live concerts and the opinion of the audience was satisfying.
This song is the most acoustic on the album and Desperado was always curious what people think about it, so they were happy when radio started to play it and they hoped it was a good closing of their album “Csak egy perc...”
On the opening day of the German Football World Championships Desperado released their new single, “Táncolj!” (Let’s dance), because it’s lyrics is about the hot atmosphere of a good football match. This song had an unprecedented success.
It was on the top of the radio charts for several months and got the 2nd position on the MTV-European Music Chart also.
It was not a surprise right after they made their new album with the title “Táncolj!” it went gold.
2007
Springtime Desperado surprised their fans with a new song “A csillagokban járunk” (Walking in the stars) which was a co-production with Pál Tamás, who was a good singer in the Hungarian Idol competition called “Megasztár”. This song’s original version is a duet sung by Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora, called “When the rain begins to fall”. This song was one of the radios’ favourite.
At the end of the year Desperade made a new Maxi “Kerek az élet” (Life is good), which is a happy song.
2008
Their publisher pushed them hard to change their good “Desperado-style” to a bolder musical melody on their next album. The new single “Érezd a zenét!” (Feel the music) is sort of a preview of their album with the same title.
This album –which is the 5th and released in November – included several R&B songs, but a few “old Desperado style” songs also.
The 10 year-old band gave a successful anniversary live concert with a title “10év, 10 dal” (10 years, 10 songs) in Debrecen.
2009
Desperado welcomed the new year with a new song “Mondd, mit szólsz?” (Tell me what you say) which was the winner of the competition of their website.
2010
After 10 years of successful and rich co-operation Desperado separated from their publisher, Sony Music. The reason of their divorce –which was made by general agreement with a lot of honour and peace- was the change of the market situation and the fact the publisher and the band had different imaginations about the music and future of the Desperado.
As a good-bye song they released another single from their last common album. “Fütyülök rád!” (Take the Chance!) has a bit country feeling and a spectacular video which made it a special song and acquired a lot of new fans for the Desperado.
